Character Elements
Characterization - Round Character - Flat Character
Characterization - PewHe was plainly blind, for he tapped before him Pew is described as an intense man who, although he is blind, can find his way around quite easily. He has a hot temper, and Jim is terrified of him even though he is blind. He is the first pirate that comes to the Admiral Benbow, and he gives Billy Bones the Black Spot, which is a summons to go to the Pirates and be killed. When he gives the Black Spot to Billy Bones, he leaves just as soon as he came. Pew dies when him and his crew come back to the Admiral Benbow, look for the chest, and then run away when they hear horses coming. Pew's crew leave him behind, and since he is blind he runs right into the horses and gets trampled.

Round characters
Jim Hawkins - The young protagonist of this story, Jim is probably one of the roundest characters in the story. He is a very good portrayal of a young boy, who is impressionable and changes with the time. Jim is always impetuous and acts before he has had time to think, but as the story progresses, he gains knowledge and wisdom that shape him from a boy into a young man. His character grows throughout the story
Billy Bones - Though our time with BB is short, he is a very colorful character. He is the perfect image of a pirate: soiled clothing, smelling of rum, unshaven, and with a temper as bad as his breath. He is as much of a pirate as the rest of them. He regales the Admiral Benbow at nights with his drunken recollections of pirate adventures, and he perfectly embodies the legends of pirates as being complete raving drunkards.
Pew - Pew is the blind pirate who looks pretty frail but is probably the biggest badass ever. Even though he is blind with a cloth over his eyes, it's almost as though he can see. He commands respect and fear in the pirates he commands, and though he hobbles with a cane, he is one of their leaders. Such an interesting guy! Not to mention he waltzes right up to Billy and gives him the Black Spot, then turns around an leaves. Ballsy! Too bad he dies by chapter 8 from a horse trampling over him.
Long John Silver - The cook on the voyage to Treasure Island. Silver is the secret ringleader of the pirate band. His physical and emotional strength is impressive. Silver is deceitful and disloyal, greedy and visceral, and does not care about human relations. Yet he is always kind toward Jim and genuinely fond of the boy. Silver is a powerful mixture of charisma and self-destructiveness, individualism and recklessness.

Flat characters
Trelawney - He is just a normal guy. Yeah he has a big mouth and set up the whole boat ride and everything, but past that this guy is pretty boring. He is very civilized and there is almost nothing interesting about him, except that he;s the whole reason the bad pirates were invited onto the ship. He is pretty naive and has absolutely no idea how to keep his mouth shut
Dr. Livesey- He's kind of just a wise old man. Jim respects him but The good doctor really isn't anyone to sing tales about. Livesey seems to be another character who is used for plot advancement rather than for some great understanding. He does give several plot points, but leaving that aside there isn't much else that can classify Livesey as a round character.
